Religious Education

Laura Goist has been our Director of Religious Education since the spring of 2003.

Laura and her husband, Ed, joined the First Unitarian Church of Youngstown when their daughter was about a year old and they were looking for a religious home.

In addition to coordinating and teaching RE here, Laura also teaches Spanish at Youngstown State University where she manages the foreign language lab. In December 2007, Laura received her Master's degree in Education from YSU.

We currently have two RE classes:
The Children’s Chapel for kindergarteners through 5th grade, and the Youth Group, made up of 7th to 9th graders.  The Children’s Chapel is following the curriculum called “We Believe” which focuses on the Seven Principles and famous people who embody those principles.

The Youth Group is going using the Gospel According to the Simpsons. The Youth Group is also making and selling Unitarian magnets and bumper stickers to raise money for hurricane relief.

We also offer childcare for babies and children younger than kindergarten in our nursery from 9:30am to noon.
